A visit from the Dean

Chris Lewis

Father Alexander from St. Symeon Orthodox Church in Birmingham, Alabama visited the Marietta, GA mission of St. Basil the Great joining for Saturday vespers and Sunday's Divine Liturgy. It was nice to have the appointed Dean of the diocese of the south in our midst as he concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with our own Fr. Paul.

During the agape meal which follows the service Fr. Alexander spoke with the members of the mission about what it means to be a mission, the typical path for mission growth, and his own experience over 30 years taking St. Symeon's from humble beginnings to its present state.

Orthodoxy on the Silver Comet Trail

Chris Lewis

On Sunday April 24, 2015 a combined group of intrepid bikers from St. Basil the Great Orthodox Mission and St. John the Wonderworker parish geared up and rolled out on the Silver Comet Trail. The peleton formed at the Rambo Nursery trail head in Paulding County Georgia and headed west toward Albama. Obtaining speeds in excess of 30mph (for a select and very young few) the peleton stretched out over a mile and worked its way along the deciduous canopy covered trail fulfilling a circuit of 18.5 miles. About three hours were spent enjoying the fellowship, the ride, and a few breathtaking sights along the trail. Look for the next ride to happen again in June.
